The rotor will continuously wind the watch, it would be terrible design to create an automatic movement that doesn't address this issue. Overwinding is a problem with mechanical non-automatic watches though, watch out if you have one of those. WebIt takes about 40 winds, or about 2 minutes, to fully wind your Rolex. Anything beyond the 40 winds or 2 minutes of winding is unnecessary. It will not break your watch; however, it does not benefit it whatsoever, in any fashion. As previously stated, the only exception to this rule is if you have a vintage Rolex.
WebKeep turning the winding crown until you hit approximately 40 rotations. At this point, the watch will be fully wound; however you will still be able to turn the winding crown just as you did before.
